Conferences and Seminars
As part of its mission to build the capacity of professional accountants and promote high-quality financial reporting and auditing, CPA Afghanistan regularly organizes conferences and other events for members, students, firms and the broader business community.
Membership and Licensing to Individual members, Audit firms & Learning providers (LP's)
On November 20, 2024, CPA Afghanistan hosted a seminar to announce the launch of Membership and Licensing for individual members, audit firms, and learning providers (LPs). The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Director General of Treasury, and other senior officials from various government organizations.
During the seminar, CPA Afghanistan officially introduced Membership for individual members and operating licenses for audit firms and LPs. The Deputy Minister of Finance emphasized that, in accordance with CPA Afghanistan's Executive Guidelines and approved policies, all audit firms and LPs—both local and internationally affiliated—must register with CPA Afghanistan to obtain their practicing licenses.
All individuals members, audit firms and learning providers are required to submit there registration applications online through the CPA Afghanistan website. CPA Afghanistan has set May 21, 2025, as the final deadline for the registration of firms and LPs. Failure to register by the deadline will result in applications not being considered, and CPA Afghanistan will not issue licenses to firms or LPs, effectively prohibiting them from operating in Afghanistan.
Afghan ACCA Students Scholarships
On August 21, 2024, CPA Afghanistan held a seminar for the announcement of ACCA scholarships for Afghan ACCA students. The seminar was attended by the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Director General of Treasury, and senior officials from various government organizations. The scholarships, fully funded by CPA Afghanistan, will cover initial registration fees, tuition fees, exam fees, and annual subscription fees for eligible students.
Learning providers (LPs) were also invited to the seminar, where their views and suggestions were considered to enhance the effectiveness of the scholarship program for students. During the event, CPA Afghanistan’s Professional Qualification Department introduced a comprehensive policy outlining the scholarship requirements and detailed procedures. The policy was shared with attendees to ensure transparency and understanding of the program.
International Conference on “Accountancy Profession in Afghanistan”
An International Conference on the theme of the Accountancy Profession in Afghanistan was held on December 11, 2017, by CPA Afghanistan in collaboration with ACCA. The conference brought together over 280 multinational and national organizations from both the government and private sectors to share experiences, learn from each other, and discuss the future development of the accountancy profession in Afghanistan.
As financial markets integrate and businesses expand, the need for adopting global accounting practices increases. The conference highlighted the deficiencies in the reporting systems of Afghan companies, which sometimes undermine the credibility of financial data. This event called on organizations to improve the alignment of their corporate financial statements with the needs of their users. The conference was structured with small, facilitated panel discussions and presentations, encouraging practical discussions among participants.
This conference marked a key moment for CPA Afghanistan in introducing a growing network of professionals and companies interested in adopting certified professional accounting. It emphasized the critical role of accounting in business, providing essential information about a company's financial position, including profit and loss, costs, earnings, and assets.
Participants included professionals from various fields, including telecommunications, audit firms, universities, health promoters, and community activists, all eager to incorporate professional accounting into their work and policies.
The conference also featured the Membership & Awards Presentation Ceremony for ACCA members, affiliates, and students. CPA Afghanistan and ACCA jointly celebrated the achievements of 30 ACCA members from Afghanistan, with certificates awarded to members who attained this milestone before 2016. Additionally, professional accounting students were recognized for achieving the highest marks in exams, receiving mementos. The ceremony, marking new beginnings for the accounting profession in Afghanistan, was concluded with the presentation of membership certificates and awards by ACCA President Mr. Brian McEnery.
International Accounting Day
The International Accountant Day was celebrated by CPA Afghanistan on October 25, 2017, at the Kabul Serena Hotel to recognize accountants and promote the accounting profession.
The event featured speeches from the Deputy Minister of Finance, Director General of Treasury, CEO of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce & Industries, government officials, and professors. They highlighted the urgent need for professional accountants, noting that without their expertise, the budget is often mismanaged. Accounting plays a crucial role in trade and economic improvement, especially in the private sector, where expert accountants are essential. Proper accounting helps management make informed decisions based on accurate financial data, and its main purpose is to systematically record financial transactions and determine a business's financial position.
The program was attended by professional accountants from across the country. After the speeches, a presentation competition was held, where accounting students were divided into groups and presented on various topics. CPA Afghanistan's executive team served as the jury and awarded prizes to the teams with the best presentations. The celebration also included cultural programs and discussions on CPA Afghanistan's future plans.
